WHITE FUNGUS #15 – Taipei Release Event
Taiwan magazine White Fungus is about to hold the release event for its 15th issue at Korner in Taipei, July 30. The event will feature New York performance artist Whitney Vangrin and Tokyo experimental music pioneer KK Null. There will also be performances by Taiwanese artists Wang Fujui, Noise Steve, Betty Apple, Cevo Yang, Tzu Ni, Al Burro, and Xu Xian.
The 15th issue of White Fungus features interviews with techno producer and DJ Jeff Mills, and New York artist James Hoff, about his work with viruses and in publishing; plus there are articles about Dolly Parton, with new illustrations by Emma Gineering, and Lin Chi-wei, a leading practitioner of sound art in Taiwan known for his Tape Music series which utilizes audience participation to produce electronic music using the human body.
There is a roundtable discussion about the art scene in Hungary chaired by Gábor Rieder, art critic and former editor-in-chief of Flash Art Hungary, and featuring Dávid Fehér, art historian and associate curator at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, and Áron Fenyvesi, writer and leading curator of the Trafó Gallery, also in Budapest. There is also an historical account of the unlikely artistic alliance and travels of Wallis Islander Alois Pilioko and French Russian émigré Nicolai Michotoutouchkine.
White Fungus was founded in Wellington, New Zealand in 2004 by brothers Ron and Mark Hanson. Since 2009, the magazine has been based in Taiwan. As well as pursuing a range of publishing projects, White Fungus directs interdisciplinary art events around the world. The new issue of White Fungus will be distributed globally by WhiteCirc in London.
